REVUE I was surprised by the small size of this book, but was amazed by the number of pictures it contained. Its 256 pages are almost all pictures, approximately 1/4 of them in color. The types of images range from manuscript illuminations, woodcuts, stone carvings, paintings, textiles, to a few "clip art" type images. I bought the book for my son, who collects dragons. He's looked at a lot of dragon art, but this book contained many unusual, "authentic" images he'd never seen. As the title says, Dragons contains pictures of medieval European (winged) dragons, as well as Oriental lungs. Beyond this division, however, the book lacks any further organization, such as by date or country of origin. This is one of the reasons I gave the book 4 stars instead of 5. The other reason is that some of the images (1/3 or so) aren't dated at all. Because of this and a lack of a bibliography, the book is of limited use to anyone interested in historic images of dragons. Still, for any dragon enthusiast this book is a must-have, and I heartily recommend it.
